Hi I am new. Can anyone help with wiper linkage problem

Featured Replies

The other morning brought ice to the windshield of my 1999 Octavia, and when I turned them on, only the left side wiper started working. Apparently, the right side linkage has become disconnected, and I need to know the steps required to access the linkage to hook it back up. Thanks for your help!

You need to lift up the scuttle panel, and you may need to remove the wiper arms first for better access.

Pop the plastic caps off the wiper arms and remove the 13mm nuts underneath.

Jiggle the wiper arms up and down to remove them from the splines - you may need to push the arm towards the windscreen to make it perpendicular to the spigot so that it will come off.

Remove the rubber trim along the engine edge of the plastic panel, then gently ease it up along the windscreen edge - there's a lip about 1 cm away from the edge that "pops" into a groove along under the windscreen.

Once you have that removed, you can take out the whole linkage if necessary by removing 3 bolts that anchor it. I don't recall exactly how the motor is coupled, but uncoupling it is pretty easy. While you have it out, check how freely the spindles move, they're notorious for corroding and becoming very stiff - if so, it's a simple job to remove the circlips from the tops and push them back through the housing so they can be cleaned up and lubricated.
