Hello I'm new to this forum. I know that the topic of retro fitting these is a hot topic and only the none canbus ones should be fitted with the remap of no shutters BUT am I missing something when you say that they can't be fitted to the main beam?

Legality and BCM death issues aside, there are two main reasons not to fit HID main beams given the typical usage pattern.

- they take a few seconds to reach full brightness so aren't suitable for 'flash' usage

- start up is the most stressful time for the bulbs and ballasts so you'll not get the full lifetime from either

 

OEM systems tend to get around these by having a halogen bulb for flashing and then a shutter on the HID projector for dipped/main beam.

 

Assuming you just want brighter main beams, I'd suggest looking at a quality LED bar instead.

Just don't go with a eBay light bar, I have a 20" one I was going to fit covertly in the front grille to supplement my bi-xenons.

It didn't even come close to the light output or distance.

They are mega bucks but www.lazerLamps.com are seriously one of the best. Friend of mine uses them for rallying and says they are brill
