Octavia 1 headlamp reflector 'wobbling' about

Featured Replies

Noticed that when going over rough roads that headlamp beam was 'wavering'-took off rubber bung on rear of headlamp and discovered that the dipping reflector was not located securely in headlamp.............how do I clip it back in?-push or pull?

thanks

It's held in by two metal 'balls' which clip into plastic sockets. This is so that the adjustment motor can move the reflector assembly for beam alignment.

I've found that occasionally they can pop out, sometimes you can do 'keyhole surgery' via the hole in the back after unclipping the black cover, they just pop back in after some persuasion using either fingers or a variety of tools like screwdrivers and thin bars etc.

If you can't get at them, then you can put the headlamp unit in the over to soften the sealant holding the lense on the front, cut into it with a sharp Stanley blade, and remove it to get access to the inside. Then re-stick it back together with new mastic sealant.

Worse though, the plastic cups can actually break, in which case you're f***ed, and you'll have to get a new unit. But pattern parts are not expensive on ebay. Just had a look - used unit 30 quid, brand new 55 quid.

HTH!

If you end up needing one I have an o/s light unit ;)
