Featured Replies

Hi

Trying to get my option list/standard spec 100% confirmed before I put my order in soon.

What would I get for placing my Iphone 6 in if I ticked the  first box below for "bluetooth telephone preperation no charge" from New car discount option list for my chosen car of 2.0 TDI CR 190 L&K 4X4 DSG.

Any pictures appreciated.Cheers

The basic Bluetooth is just that: a connection to the car for hands free calling and music streaming. There is a tray in front of the gear shifter with a sliding lid, this has a rubber mat so your phone is safe in there. It can also connect Apple CarPlay to the head unit via a USB lead. My iPhone 6S+ fits in there nicely so you won't have any problems with a 6. I thought bluetooth was standard on all models anyway.

Media command allows people to fiddle with the audio system via a smartphone or tablet. Not worth bothering with IMO, unless you're a chauffeur.

Bluetooth with phonebox and wireless charging gives two things: the wireless charging puts an inductive charging pad in the bottom of the tray where the phone lives. It's no good for an iPhone as they don't have wireless charging and will no doubt develop their own propriety system anyway.

It does have the advantage of amplifying the phone's signal when in the tray via the car's roof antenna. This improves call quality and increases battery life. I opted for it and it makes a difference.

Premium WLAN adds a SIM card slot to the glovebox so your car can have its own 3G/4G data connection to the outside world. It creates a wireless hotspot in the car for others to use when they want to. I have it and it's ideal for the kids and their iPads.

Yes, I know you can have your own hotspot from your own phone blah blah blah, but this is less hassle for me as I can chuck my phone in the tray and forget about it when the kids want to watch Minecraft on YouTube.

An rSAP phone can do the same job as the SIM card slot but iPhones don't support rSAP so can't do it in this way. I don't know if it's possible to do it as I've never bothered to try.

just wanted to confirm that the standard would be tray with sliding lid usb charging connection and the phone would fit.

cheers

What model are you looking at?

Ignore me.... just read the first post again

The L&K will have all of that on it as standard

If you scroll down on this page, you'll see a picture of the tray in question: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/366575-superb-iii-my-findings/page-2

The lid soft closes over the tray to completely conceal the contents.

I also got one of these leads to connect Apple CarPlay. Not too long so it doesn't get tangled and has an angled connector so it takes up less room. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B018LFB5QI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My 6S+ with a case connects to this lead and still fits in the tray with the lid closed.

We'll wireless charging is no use if you've got an iPhone and the phone box is meant to help amplify the phone signal by using the car's antenna, when placed in the box. No idea if it's much good but strikes me as a waste of £300 IMO. The premium WAN allows you to buy a Data SIM card and put it into the car and create a wifi hotspot using the Columbus system - nothin to do phone itself, and again arguably a waste of money because you can probably create the same effect by tethering devices to your own phone, which you're already paying a monthly plan for, rather than paying an extra £10+ per month for a data plan you don't need again IMO.

With just the standard option you get Bluetooth connectivity and CarPlay for a wired connection if wanted.
