Coolant Level High

Featured Replies

My car went in for a service and mot a little while ago, where they topped up my coolant level as a little low (it had previously been replaced a month or so before as replaced water pump).

Now when i check the coolant level in the expansion gank it's above max.

Is there easy way of dropping the level a little?

Thanks

How high is it ? A little wont hurt. Check when cold to as it will expand as the engine gets hot

It's upto what appears to be the join in the middle of the tank.

Is the car parked level?

Well i can't guarantee its truly level as on gravel drive, but appears approximately level. The fluid within the container appears to be same level on all sides of the vessel, at least the parts where i get a good view?

It doesn't seem to take much to make it look slightly high or low. My drive isn't level and it makes the coolant look slightly low. To check I parked in the loading bay at work, which is flat, and it showed bang on max.

If it's on or slightly above the waist line of the header tank it's just fine.

I don't know if its just me but I always find a hot engine looks a bit lower. Releasing the pressure in the header tank then bring it up to roughly where the cold level would be.

It can work that way with pressure
