Car net app connect?

Featured Replies

Looking at a car it is 2016 model registered 16/5/16 with discover navigation composite media player.

In menu it has car net app connect icon but when you select it says; "contact your dealer for activation code" dealer saying this feature cannot be made live wtf?

Any pointer as this could be a deal breaker. Sorry didn't post in ICE section as it is a VW so not 100% a Skoda ICE question.

TIA

A VW garage said exactly the same to me as the subscription is time based from activation.

The dealer says it's not something that I can pay for as a dealer upgrade but the VW website clearly states the composite media/discover nav & discover nav pro can be dealer upgraded?

Gets confusing TBH all the people I spoke to there really do not even seem to understand what it is :(

Maybe I'm confusing it with the Google maps etc feature which is already there but needs activating for a specific user?

This is something we'd better all get used to. Having cars loaded with useless unsupported features.

My Mazda has about 4 built in apps that rely on an Android or Apple phone to work plus subscriptions for some of them. They don't work with my phone and I don't have a large enough data allowance anyway. IT's done through the Mazda website so at least that take the dealer out of the issue I suppose.

Somehow I doubt this all be working in 10yr, although I'd hope the car would still be running.

It is very difficult to tell whether this can be added retrospectively and most dealers do not really know. The links below from the VWROC forum clearly show this.

My R should have had the App Connect activated on delivery, especially as it was specified on the build sheet for the car (I took one from VW stock) but when I tried to use it was not activated. A little tooing and frowing with the dealer as one person told me it could not be done, and another said it could, involvement of VWCS and a little pressure, and it was done.

What I think I have gleaned though is that it really does depend on the MIB unit. If it is a MIB1 then it is not possible, but if it is an MIB2 then it can be done but how you can tell which is which I am not sure. In the second thread there is mention of a mute button being present, and if so then that IIRC is the MIB1. But you will need to have a red through to confirm this.
