12v socket (cigarette lighter)

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if there is any loom I can link into to put a 12v socket in the boot of a new octy hatch?

It is a brand new Elegance TDI is that makes any difference?

I need a 12v supply in the boot really?

Thanks in advance.

you will have a 12v supply for the rear lights and also for a cd changer, can't think of anything else to tap into. what are you planning on running from the 12v socket then, as if its a decent load then you will be better off running a new supply to the rear to feed it. :)

I think it's only the estate that has a 12v socket in the boot. Personally I would run in a new cable back to the fusebox behind the sidepanel on the drivers side of the dash and terminate it through an inline fuse and crimp terminal trimmed to fit into one of the unused permanent supply fuse holders. Ensure that the in-line fuse is as close as possible to the termination point. You should be able to earth locally to some point within the boot.

I was hoping the looms were the same or simlar and I would find it behind a panel or something!!!!:P

I dont really fancy running it the length of the car and taking all the trim off to do it.

I need it to plug in a battery charger that runs off a cigarette lighter. Not a huge load on it.

Anyone know of somewhere I could tap into?????

buy another octavia, hook it up as a constant tow and run a 12v extension lead from the second octavia to to the boot of yours(fixed down with gaffer tape for safety  ) and bluetak the socket in place in your boot. problem solved :)

Trust you to get complicated Bengie. I'd say a wireless 12v socket might be a better bet

Actually you might find a permanent or switched feed somewhere in the boot for future towbar electrics. It's a longshot but you never know.

I'll have a dig around tommorrow!

Bengie - Was gonna try a long extension lead from home with a 12v transformer on the end but it got kinked!

damn, good try mate. maybe you should try one of those coiled up type leads next time :)

You could use the boot lights as the 12v feed. You'd then have a really big on/off switch too!

good thinking phil, couldn't leave it on by mistake then

Back to the plot -

Anyone know where I can get a 12v pickup in the boot????

Anyone had any luck on this one? I'm thinking of doing the same as want to fit a recharging lamp/torch in there and a feed for a fridge in the boot occasionally.

run two wires from the +ve and -ve from the battery, run underneath the car, tie wrapping to available holding points, run through a grommit hole into the boot and route to where you want the socket. Don't forget to connect an inline fuse.

run a wire from the fuse box under the carpet or low panels to back of car, then run a negative wire off the bodywork somewhere in the boot area.

how about getting some nicorette patches for the passengers in the boot?
