Chip off ebay, looks a bit more official

Ebay rule no1......

If it looks to good to be true - it is.

A resistor in a box for petrol I'm afraid.

How does it work?

It will modify any standard ECU by telling the ECU that the incoming air in the intake system is cold and so advances the ignition to compensate producing more power. In many cases fuel economy is increased too. Power is increased by up to 15BHP and torque is increased significantly.

It will have the effect of running the car rich all the time, if it were a carburetter it would be the same effect as being on choke.

bo11ocks will it save on fuel.... If you're fooling the car that the air coming in is cold, its going to put more fuel in the engine, not less.... Just a resistor at the end of the day. :)

So elequantly put as usual Jason :P

:D Tell it like it is. :)

better avoid it then:) thanks guys, will it bugger up the engine?

Probably not. But it will bugger up your fuel economy. And I "guess" (not too sure on this one) it will drive like an older car with the choke held out. I'd go for physical mods first, before touching engine management. :)

You have a naturaly aspirated petrol engine so power gains are hard to achieve. Most common is via good induction, good fuel, good plugs and leads.

Things start to get a bit more out of hand after that with ported heads, reprofiled cams etc.

Depending on how fierce it is, it might - an over-rich mixture will definitely foul your plugs and make your car run rough - but if it's really overfuelling then it can wash the oil off the bores and cause excessive wear to the engine. Your best bet with a NA engine is always exhaust & air filter to start, then if the budget can stretch to it, gas flowed cylinder head, different cams maybe, and then a chip or remap to get the most out of the mods you've done. Of course because the engine isn't supercharged or turbocharged, the most you're likely to see out of this is maybe a 15% increase in engine power.

Ironically the most cost effective way of making a normally aspirated car go faster, is to not waste money on the engine and instead concentrate on better tyres, brakes and suspension - much better value for money as the improvements will be felt more and will enable you to drive the car faster with the engine performance you already have.

Or just fit nitrous

After a while it will bugeer it, you'll get bore wash ;)
