Need new front tyre but carn't buy like for like

Featured Replies

Been quiet new to this big bike lark i bought my hornet knowing it will need a new front tyre soon,

At the moment it has matching michelin pilot road S's front and rear which according to the sticker on chain guard is what it came out of factory with,

Now started looking about and realised you carn't buy road S's anymore,

So im guessing they have been replaced with the road 2,3 and 4,

This is fine but it will mean am running odd tyres front and rear then,

Will i really notice any differance as long as i stick to same brand

Won't be a problem. Tyre design and performance are improving all the time so you'll benefit from it. I have the Road Pilot 3 on my KTM and they've been fantastic in both grip and wear. Couldn't comment on MPG as it's never a consideration when I'm riding.

Not sure how similar the road is compared to the 3 or 4.

Id do it with a 3 and 4 as they are very similar.

How old is the back then? Id be tempted to buy a set anyway if its a few years old.

Just thought

When i was ready for a rear a few years back when i had the pr3's, my local bike shop rang Michelin and asked if its okay to mix.

You could always do that?

I cant see the number off hand.. But maybe this?

Front tyres dated 0906 which am guessing is the original one it came with, (quiet old then sooner its changed the better i think)

Rear tyres dated 0114 so its a couple of years old but looks like its hardly been used
