Front assist braking

Featured Replies

I thought it was called anti-collision-control but that would make it the same acronym as ACC adaptive-cruise-control.....all very confusing anyway mine works....that is the collision braking thing. Coming up the A1 yesterday I came across a slower moving large trailer straddling 2 lanes with an escort vehicle. I was just about to overtake him when the escort vehicle suddenly switched lanes causing a ripple brake effect in the cars already overtaking him. Needless to say I was on it but also the front assist with a warning beep and sudden braking. All in all very nice to have and it works.

We're you using AAC at the same time? What I mean is to say was it active, was the symbol green?

If it was turned on but wasn't active i.e. you had touched the brake etc and would have to hit resume for AAC to cut in again?

I only ask as I think Front Assist should always be on (unless deactivated via menu) but think that when the AAC lever is all the way fwd in the off position, it also turns off the Front Assist / Emergency braking system.

Any ideas? It's not like I want to try it out or anything just want to know if it works. I would consult the manual but the one i got with my car is for the Superb 2!!!!

99% of my driving is without ACC switched on (I leave it in the off position, as opposed to the standby position, otherwise it disables the odometer display).

I've had the occasional Y-junction type false positives so it definitely works without ACC (unless, as you say, you deliberately switch Front Assist off).

Good to know. My Octavia VRS had it, it got itself in a twist on occasions and has nearly made me and my wife **** ourselves when it slammed on the brakes without warning at a car 100m away which braked suddenly then turned left! It did this a few times at this junction each time bringing on a real Heart attack moment for those in the car. In the end I was always careful at that particular bend to just touch the brakes so the car knows I have seen the cars in front slowing and turning left, thereby preventing any brake slam ons for no reason.

I can say that the Superb 3 has yet to trigger with AAC off. It has Pinged a few times with it on but never in the stalk forward (off) position. Good to know that it still is active.

I wasn't using ACC at the time, (but I am a big fan of it) so I can't help you there I'm afraid. The SIII manuals are pinned on the main menu here if you want to read the official version.

Has anyone gotten false alarms from front assist?

I've been driving my L&K Combi for 6 months now and front assist has nicely warned (once even started braking) me two times.

However, yesterday when driving on an empty road, I got the front assist warning and it made a very heavy (fortunately also very brief) braking (decreasing speed from about 60 km/h to 50 km/h) - no apparent reason for this.

Had someone been driving right behind me it could have resulted in a crash...

Regards,

Lasse

Perhaps it picked something up that you couldn't see? I seem to remember someone saying a bird flying in front of their car caused it to brake briefly and suddenly.
