Cheap wifi dongle

Featured Replies

Folks, need suggestions for a cheap throwaway PAYG mobile dongle as SWMBO needs one for less than a month whilst working away from home.

4G preferred and the cheaper the better; just something to get her online whilst away from home. Best possible speed, Mr Sulu!

TIA :)

Could she not tether with her phone and add an extra data bundle or something depending what network she's on?

I taught her how to do that but she's on an O2 PAYG plan with 50Mb per day for a pound. And it's only 3G.

Fair enough. Worth checking.

Which network you choose might depend on the coverage where she's going to be staying.

Looking on here the best value one to me looks to be the EE Osprey with 24gb data preloaded for £79.99.

There are cheaper ones but the price per GB is much higher on those as you only get 1 or 3gb that expires quite quickly.

When you say 3G, do you mean the SIM or the phone?

If you mean the SIM, and the phone can handle 4G, and depending how much data she intends to use; if it is only a few GB, get a GiffGaff SIM and buy a monthly goody bag for the phone; assuming the phone isnt dual SIM, it will mean either swapping SIMs when you need to tether, or not being able to use her old phone number for a while.

Unless she prefers GiffGaffs cheaper calls (free GG to GG), in which case they can transfer her old number to the new SIM.

I think I might have a 3g dongle in my drawer at work you can have if it will be any use you Lee?

I've got a Vodafone K3805-Z going spare if you want it Lee?

It's locked to Vodafone, but they can be easily unlocked, and then you can just put any 30 day sim in it.

Many thanks, Sam but found a solution. My old 4G Sony Experia and a PAYG simply with data tethered. Thanks again.
