I'd be interested in a group buy too. Been thinking about something similar for a while.

Yes   And thanks to Ebay fees, especially them taking 10% off postage AS WELL, that's about as low as I can go on there.  However if I have no fees to pay, I can go cheaper.   And postage is the same

  • That's Jason selling those.... :P

Old thread revival i know lol, but anyone got any ideas on how to get rid of repellant coating on a windscreen.Had the car a while & always had problems with juddery wipers,i've not put anything on the screen but water beads up like there's something on there.

This has now got worse to the extent that the wipers skip & bounce about, the screen has to covered in water to get anything like a proper wipe which in the heavy rain we had recently is far from ideal.

Tried standard blades & Bosch aeros but no difference.

Any removal suggestions welcome cos its rapidly nearing the brick option.

Try some glass polish and a bit of elbow grease.

On another note I have an update on my replant stuff I got, it's 54173, s***e.

Probably the option i would go for is a CarPro Ceriglass kit;

then if looking at a new sealant.... Gtechniq G5 if what i use.

We can see. ;)  I don't normally do group buys, but I sell the aquapel as part of my detailing so its no longer a nil profit deal like the spirit of a group buy.

Hi Jason,

What is your best price for Aquapel if buying direct from you, not using ebay?

Thanks

Dave

Kit ordered, don't want any sealant on the screen as i find that beading thing distracting/irritating or something, whatever don't like it lol.

Am now back on the Aquapel. Should fair better than the Gtechniq which just hasn't been performing.

I bought some cerium oxide from eBay for under £5. Works great at removing hydrophobic coatings. It's normally used with a machine pad to get rid of scratches but it works well for what I wanted.

I probably over did it but my process was as follows:

Washed car as usual

Clay mitt windscreen

Couple of goes with bar keepers friend (this removed some of the coating)

Three goes with the cerium oxide (mixed as per instructions that came with the pack). Rinse after each go.

Wash windscreen and surrounding area thoroughly

Not sure you need to do this but I then:

Dried windscreen

Cleaned with Angelwax Vision

Cleaned with Autoglym Car Glass Polish

Fitted new Champion wiper blades

I've never seen a windscreen so clean and clear. So now it's coating free. I'm actually looking forward to not constantly trying to not use the wipers when it's raining, or getting those bands when the coating starts to wear off (using rain-x). I might see how it goes, it'll be strange not having a coating on the front screen but I might look at applying something bette/longer-lasting.

I'd like to try Aquapel, where's best to source it from?

Had to google bar keepers friend thought it was code for who knows what lol, anyway so far have cleaned the screen with neat ipa & tried the carpro glass polish once.

Have not had rain whilst driving since to see if there's any improvement but will give it a couple more goes with the polish to be sure.

Haha, yeah it does sound a bit 'ooh err missus'.

You probably don't need to use barkeepers friend. I just used it as I had it, and I know it's good for cleaning glass.

I know what you mean though, I'm waiting on a good downpour whilst I'm driving, to see what the screen is like.

Used Gtechniq G5 at the weekend - first time in over 6 months.

Just so easy to use... my favourite for sure

Just used Gtechniq G5 this afternoon - very impressed with its easy on easy off formula.. will monitor water repellency & durability!

Sounds good. That's the main factor really. Aquapel can be a bit of a pain to apply, but it's worth it for the length of time it lasts :)

Ahhhh so you finally invested in some G5.... good stuff!

Let me know what you think on it long term.

As you have already seen... easy on/off and great results!

Application seems good! From reviews etc so does durability! Looking forward to it raining now believe it or not haha.

What are people getting durability-wise from G5, in real-world use?

Couple of months, that's why I switched back to Aquapel. G5 performs great but I was having to top up more frequently.

With good prep-work and decent maintenance regime - i get 6 months usually.

Been using the same bottle now for 2 years.... so its not like i use a lot either!

Thanks guys - will stick with Aquapel :)

Ordered some Carlack sealant from CYC - arrived this morning and applied.  Very difficult to see where you've applied as there was no distinct haze.  Left for 10 mins and buffed off with damp MF.  Awaiting the rain to see how it performs.......thought I'd try something different.

Keen to try the G5....

Interested to see how you get on David. Not tested any Carlack products myself.
