Removing Bird Etching by Hand

Featured Replies

I was left a deposit today whilst at work, which I soaked off as on as I got home. Although it was only on the car for a few hours it has left some etching [emoji35]

I've given it a go with several hits of Autoglym SRP which has reduced the impact but it's not totally disappeared. I don't currently have a DA (but have earmarked a purchase for later this summer) so suggestions on how to deal with this would be appreciated. Should I go the glaze route and wait until I get a machine polisher or should I try to polish by hand

Any advice gratefully received

You got any stronger polish? Megs Ultimate Compound by hand would shift it.

I afraid not but happy to buy on recommendation. Thanks for this. How easy is it to use and hopefully not too aggressive ?

It's not too aggressive when using by hand. It can be on the right pad via machine.

Just apply using a foam applicator in circular motions using light pressure and remove the excess with a microfiber towel.

It's available locally at halfords too which will make it easier.

Try using a hair dryer as per the discussion on Detailing World........sorry couldn't attach the link but if you search on the discussion section "detailing Chat" on page 2 is the title Bird Poo "Etching" - Hairdryer Method

Read this and it's a good tip that seems to work!

Thanks for that, I managed to remove it using the Meguiars UC before I saw that. Not certain I'd be brave enough to use the hairdryer as part of the etching was on my painted roof rail cover, which I think are plastic

You're welcome - probably not a good idea for the roof rails!  The discussion on DW related to paint only from memory.
