Buying a mk2 1.9 PD hatch - advice needed!

Featured Replies

*Re-posted from the buying advice sub*

Afternoon All,

I've experienced the 1.9 PD engine in Galaxies, Sharans, a Mk5 Golf and a Mk1 VRS, all excellent - seemingly only needing the pump and cambelt changed every 60k miles or so.

I'm looking to help my little sister buy a Mk2 hatch (manual) with the same engine. Its the '3' trim and we're after one with a bit less than 100k miles on the clock.

What do I need to look out for?

Many thanks.

I asked a similar question last week, scroll down on the mk2 page and you'll see it (mk2 common faults) or somthing.

Obviously you know engine wise they are fine, best engine for the mk2 imo.

The one i collected on Monday is also a Fabia 3 spec, so has a nice dash (possibly maxidot), cruise control, AC, parking sensors, AUX, arm rest and probably other things i've forgot!

Awesome, cheers. This will be the top spec too. Have you had a VRS before? How are you finding going from a 6 to a 5 speed?

I currently have a mk1 vrs special edition.

I don't mind the 5 speed, would prefer a 5 speed vrs actually :D a better gearbox and better clutch and flywheel setup!
