Bluetooth/USB/FM transmitter advice please.

Featured Replies

Hi,

My Octavia, which is an excellent car, does not have a bluetooth option as standard.

Consequently, I am trying to use a Bluetooth/FM transmitter/USB charger device ,(12volt cigarette lighter supply type) to connect my mobile phone to the in car fm stereo radio, as a handsfree call device, also to run the gps navigation installed on the phone, and also to receive digital radio broadcasts from the phone.

The issue I have is that I have tried a few of these handsfree Bluetooth/FM/USB phone charger units from ebay and although some are advertised as outputting 5 volts/2.0 amps, the chargers do not keep up with the phone battery drain and also, in most cases, the handsfree microphones are all pretty useless, the call receiver being unable to hear /distinguish speech. In most cases the FM connections to the radio work pretty well though.

I have tried various charger/data cables but none seem to have any positive effect.

So my question is, can anyone recommend a good Bluetooth/FM transmitter/USB phone charger (12 volt type that fits into the cigarette lighter) that actually works well, and has a guaranteed charger output???!!!

Thank you........Brian.

I've never found an aftermarket Bluetooth hands free kit that works properly Brian ...

The best was one my wife purchased off QVC that was a rear view mirror that clipped over your existing mirror, later models synced with your phone book but mines didn't, but even then if you didn't look and talk at the mirror callers complained they couldn't hear you .. Even the TomTom sat nav I had with Bluetooth was a let down.

You could also add a Skoda bluetooth module. This will give you a factory fit feeling and support streaming depending on which you use.

Then it's just any 'decent' generic 5v charger that can kick out enough juice for your phone.

It'll be more expensive but probably better in the long run :)

Thank you both for taking the time to reply.

I rang my local Skoda dealer who were surprisingly, completely unhelpful, saying they couldn't supply anything or offer any suggestions to deal with my issue.

I have seen complete CD/Radio units with Bluetooth for sale on ebay so I might go down that route, or try and obtain one from a car breaker.

Meanwhile I'll wait and see if there are any other suggestions.............. any help greatly appreciated !!
