Seized wheels.....

Featured Replies

I just changed out the NS fog on my MY14 and presumably they don't take the wheels off during a service. All the wheels were seized on. I tried all the normal tricks (rubber mallet, wood, lowering with bolts out and so on). In the end I drove hard in reverse with only two nuts in loose and slammed on the brakes, then did the same going forward.

Even then I had to pull like hell (no way wifey would get these off), and eventually the wheel flew off hitting the disc and creating a scratch on the inside of the rim

So word of warning. If you have never had your wheels off, get them off and wire brush the centres. Put some molyslip/copperslip (something at least) on the bits you just cleaned (its obvious when you look at it).

I'm really glad that I found out this before having a puncture etc...

I did note too that all the plastic centres in the middles of the wheels were pitted and looking manky. Shame that, as the wheels are actually in perfect condition (bar the new scratches on the inside)....

I change between summer and winter wheels and have this problem every time. Copperslip helps but does not solve this issue.

Steel wheels, no problem :)

Steel wheels ueewwwww!  :D In all seriousness, the upgrade alloys on the Sport really do set off the car. I have not seen a better set of alloys in the range.
