I've seen anything from 20mpg (distribution 16/17 tonner) down to 2mpg (specialist "heavy haulage" trucks) reported by owners.

As there is no "standard" HGV..........whatever you got

I run a number of Mercs, Scania and Renault units, all 6x2 and they return anything from 7 to 11 depending upon route, load, etc

 

We are currently trialling the Scania's as they have an advanced cruise control system which uses GPS to predict the topography of the road ahead and adjust speed accordingly. For example, it senses an incline in the distance and adjusts the speed and gearing to account for it.

 

Hot topic in the industry especially as fuel accounts for anything from 30-40% of costs.

 Renault D range 280 18T, 9.5M Curtainsider, ranges from about 10.5 upto 14.5 dependant on load, roads, weather etc.

As a slight O/T ,

I heard / read yesterday that stobarts didnt get a contract renewal for tesco - its gone to DHL.

i dont know if its just the irish supply line or UK also though?
