I've just picked up my new Fabia today and I've got the 5 day drive away insurance which takes me through to Monday night.  I've just tried to update my normal insurance policy but the registration number isn't recognised.  How long have does it normally take?  I'm notoriously bad at forgetting to do stuff like this so want to get it done and out of the way as soon as possible!

It should be there instantly on the DVLA side, but it could be that your insurers data hasn't updated if your trying to do it online.

 

If you give them a call and tell them the registration, make, model and trim level they should be able to sort it for you no bother. That's what I had to do when I picked mine up.

I'm with cheapo quotemehappy.com who don't have a call centre, but it doesn't appear on the DVLA vehicle checker yet either so I'll give it a day or two and try again.

It should take approx 24hrs for their system to catch up

Shame they don't have a call centre. My insurance noted down the reg number and then manually entered car details as it wasn't ready. Even set it so on the day of pickup I could drive my old car until whenever I picked my new one up.

It trickled down to my insurer around lunch time and it was only £6.17 increase over my old Citigo sport in the end - I was expecting around £60 based on a few quotes I got so I'm well chuffed

That's good! The Fabia is quite good on insurance, I think partly because of the Front Assist. The 1.0 75 is 1 insurance group lower as an SE than as an S.
