Poor dealer sales experience - am I being unreasonable?

Featured Replies

So I've been after an Octavia Scout DSG for a while now, visited my local dealership 3 times and was ignored completely on the first 2 visits, ok they were very busy but absolutely no acknowledgement at all.

Eventfully got a test drive in a used Scout which consisted of a 2 mile loop, I asked for longer but there was no fuel in it! Came back a second time and drove for longer and decided to try and strike a deal as I liked the car. They took my details and said they would call me later that day to see what they could offer. Only one Scout was available from national stock at the time but it had 4k of extras, decided to go for it and gave a £500 deposit but later in the day I was rejected by Skoda finance (despite a good deposit and a completely clean credit history)???. At this point the dealer lost interest.

I then spent the next 24hrs looking for a cheaper, nearly new Scout and found a couple listed as Skoda UK cars, however the dealer seemed less than interested in selling me one and despite me supplying several registrations from the website did not get back to me with availability. I ended up ringing another dealer who confirmed within 10 minutes that there was a few available. So I arranged my own finance (took 20 mins and instant approval at a good rate) and as I had given a deposit to the original dealer asked if they could transfer it to this car which they agreed.

However despite numerous emails (hard for me to call as I work in the ambulance service) I have heard nothing since last Friday, I've repeatedly chased and asked for a proper order form laying out the deal but to no avail. I am now starting to get cold feet, why the delay, why the reluctance to send me written confirmation of the deal? Are these Skoda UK cars good buys or should I beware?

Should I walk away and find a dealer I trust? I have signed nothing but have paid a £500 deposit, I know they have ordered the car from Skoda so will have incurred cost, so wonder if I will have a legal battle.

Or should I just sit tight?

Help!!

Looking at your Profile I'm assuming it's DMK.

Ask to speak to one of the principals. Don't take no for an answer, Insist. Tell him whats gone on with his staff, Tell him straight.

Letter sent to DP - let's see what he says as I've been fobbed off again today with excuses about staff being out on training courses (let's hope it's a customer service course)

DP didn't even have the courtesy to reply or acknowledge my email which I find disgraceful. If the 'top man' can't even be bothered to reply that sets the tone for the rest of the staff.

I've decided to stick with my order as there are not many nearly new low mileage Scouts around but am appalled by this dealership and their total lack of customer service. Just hope the car is good and I have no issues after collection.

I'd flag to Skoda UK - send a copy of the DP letter to them together with details.
