Problems with locking my Octavia. key barrel stuck in driver door

Featured Replies

Hey guys, so i have just bought a late 03 1.9 Tdi Octavia, i have fixed most of my problems now, but i am abit stuck on locking my car, i have just one key, and the key fob is non responsive, and the key barrel in the driver door just spins.

So today i started to take out the key barrel, i have understood that they can be cheap to fix.

i saw there was some guides online and saw it was basicly just take out or loosed alot on the screws i can acess from the side of the door, then pry out the key barrel from the outside.

but the barrel dont seem to move, i have also broken off the painted cover over it now, still wont budge.

any advise?

also i am looking at buying a new key on ebay hoping that its just the key fob thats the problem. with the sentral locking ( works perfekt from driver door buttons)

but i have found a key that looks the same and is the same MHz but cannot find with all the numbers matching whats inside my remote.  can it still work?

Thanks in advance for any answers,

Greetings, Christer.

i have read that thread, and did it like that, but it wont budge, and i already broke off the painted cover,

so just use more brute force?...

Assuming the torx screw is still connected to the lock retainer yes.

the top torx is removed, and the bottom one is at the end of the threads.

is the lock retainer the plate the bottom torx moves inside?

Yes, you can see the bolt in the c shaped retaining ring here.

thanks for that picture.

but now when i have it in the posission of the picture the key barrel is suposed to be locked inn right?

and when i have the bolt almost out of the threaded part, i should be able to pull the key barrel out right?

i dont have to take that torx bolt all the way out and move the retaining ring even further do i? understood it as it dont need to be all they way gone.

If you take the bolt all the way out the c shaped retaining ring falls into the bottom of the door.

i still cant get the key cylinder to budge,  i have the two bolts all the way removed now and the retaining ring can be moved almost 1cm sideways but thats it and cant get it off.

i saw some places online people talking about having to turn the key in the prosess of removing it.

my key barrel just spins, thats why i am removing it so it does not make any difference what i do with the key in it,

so any ideas what to do next? and what makes the door handle stay slightly open when the bolts on the side are out?

just to let you know, its out, i just had to bend 2x screwdrivers in the prosess. it was just ****loads of sand and stuff in there so was a fight all the way out.

thanks for all help. :)
