Newbie looking for advice please

Hi,

I am new and I currently drive a 64 plate Skoda Yeti. I am looking for someting 'a bit sporty' (and will not be selling the Yeti) and have been looking at all sorts of cars - Renault Megane R26 (discounted because of costs that can be involved in keeping them on the road!), Megane RS250 (can't afford one!), and a few others.

I am 55 and have 2 kids and my thoughts turned to a petrol Octavia VRS - which I would possibly look to remap.

The logic is that they are a family size car (keeps the Mrs happy) and they are quite nippy (keeps me happy as I want something quickish).

What are they like? I have not yet even been a passenger in one let alone driven one!

Are they quick?

Are they reliable?

What is the potential for mapping/modifying?

I have a budget of £5K - what can I expect for that money?
