2ltr tsi vrs timing chain

Featured Replies

Hi all, just after confirmation as I'm a little confused. I rang a vag specialist near to me (recommend by someone on here) for a quote for a big service including timing chain and pulleys.

Looking around this site, I am under the impression my petrol 2010 vrs would need a timing chain replacement every 4 or 5 years. Or at least recommended to avoid any failure. The specialist advised the timing chain and would not need doing. They would only investigate if making a noise.

My question, would the garage be correct and I have misunderstood the tsi threads?

TIA

Lots and lots of information on this forum including the sticky at the top of the page. Officially the chain and tensioner require no maintenance but in practice there is a weakness and it makes failure a possibility.

See also this recent forum thread.

As said, if yours is 2010 and either hasn't had preventative replacement or the failure already occur, I'd be getting the  new chain tensioner kit fitted ASAP.  It wasn't until 2010 (I believe) that a fairly stable tensioner was fitted.

Basically, if you're still on the 2010 tensioner/chain, I'd seriously be looking to have them updated.
