Hit a fox.....engine noise :-(

Featured Replies

Hi folks, looking for any ideas....

I hit a fox this morning, large adult, doing about 50mph. went straight under the car right under the front of the grill.

Didn't notice anything initially, but on stopping about a mile later where it was light, to check for damage, I noticed a knocking noise coming from the engine bay.

I can't see any damage, other than scrapes to the under side of the bumper in the centre.

Drove home very slowly, no oil leaks I can see or pressure warnings / oil temp increase, but definite knocking noise, though it comes an goes.

The engine also 'ran on' for a few seconds after I switched the ignition off, but hasn't done that since.

I'm not using it until I get it to a garage, but it drove fine on the way home.

Any ideas what it's likely to be folks? Car has 50k miles on the clock and no previous issues.

Thanks

Go get your coat, go on! right now! This is a serious matter :D

Any damage to the radiator fans. May have a rogue leg or foot trapped between the blades?

Ah....proper look in the daylight just now....how the feck did I miss all this last night?!?!?

So, the large fan in front of the radiator....the outer ring is split

A piece of broken plastic was lying in the space between the radiator and the front bumper

the plastic housing between the inside of the front bumper and the radiator is broken (nearside)

the housing around the front nearside fog light is no longer there

Pics included to try and show the damage....

Looks like you need new fans. Rest just looks cosmetic.

What's the puddle of water?
