They've been "fixing" the roads using the tar and loose chippings method around here and have noticed a paint chip on the door of other car. The car's dark blue and undercoat shows up quite noticeably. Any recommendations for touch up kits (other then just going for the manufacters' kit)?

 

 

 

Good old fashioned bottle and brush in the right paint code. Ebay.

Some don't need a lacquer, some do, if so get a small bottle of that n all.

I don't know how far you are from your nearest dealership, but Skoda paint is a good match and competitively priced.

Halfords do a three part touch up kit - got excellent match on my black magic pearl paint. Surprised to see how wide and specific their range is. Usual disclaimer - no commercial connection.

Skoda dealers sell the kits discounted on Ebay. Have a dig around.

 

But they're not that much from the dealers anyway.

Problem is, usually minimum mix quantity is 1/2 litre, which will cost from £10 upwards, plus usually a laquer top coat

Makes for an expensive way to touch in a stone chip.

Factors that mix Dupont are less than £8 a bottle and you do get too much for just touching in stone chips, 

but then if you need to blow in some paint it is very handy.

Ebay sellers are around £5 and I've never had a colour not matched to the code.

Find a better place then.A DECENT small place will do it for a lot less , and tell you if a can is cheaper( for Laquer). Leave the "gotta make a pile or two" to the likes of Halfrauds.

£10? How much does a new car or paint job cost? Spend the money, protect the car. Skoda's touch up paint is pretty decent and covers minor stone chips well.

I'm not sure why this is so complicated, I just keep a bottle of coded paint with a brush in the lid and a bottle of lacquer, lasts for ages, cheap, does the job, retouch now and again.

I've ordered some paint - I'll do a before and after when I do it to see how good it is (or good I am ) 

 

It's a "nasty" chip in that it's 3-4mm across and the paint is metallic BMW xirallic Imperial Blue.
