Problems with 2010 Fabia estate 1.9

Featured Replies

Hi

Just purchased a new second hand Skoda Fabia from a dealer. It has 50,000 on the clock and I had the Cambelt and water pump changed before I collected it from the dealer. they put it thru an MOT and the only advisee was pitted disks.

It is a 1.9 diesel.

I have had it for under on week, and it seems to have trouble with cornering, the back end always wants to come out and also very noisy when driving, it does not seem to be the engine.Seems to be coming from wheels.

The dealer is not being the best, I am due to take it to a main Skoda dealer for second opinion as to if something is wrong.

Help!

Tyres would be my first thought. Budgets, branded, condition, pressures.

just have a look what  tyres are on all round.. unusual for a Fabia to oversteer if tyres are all the same and right pressures.. they understeer like  a FWD hatch typically does.

A work colleague had an issue with tyres wearing such that the every other edge segment wore more than the adjacent one, very strange but one possibility was a resonance between the tyre pattern, the car and driving on the same roads at the same speeds 5 days per week.

If the tyres are a cheap import brand e.g. Wanli, Goodride, Linglong, Runway, Sunny, Triangle performance even in the dry may not be good and even worse in the wet.

Depending on your use and funds Michelin, Dunlop, Continental etc may not be an option but do go for a mid-range e.g. Barum ( part of Continental group ), Avon, Falken, Uniroyal or at a push Khumo, Hankook or even Matador MP 46 Hectorra 2 ( apparently Matador are linked to Continental )
