"Thrust bearing" sound" when in P and N - DSG

Featured Replies

Hi,

When the lever is in P or N the gearbox make a sound similar to a worn out "thrust bearing". When put in D, S or R the sound disappears.

Any idea what can cause this?

Thanks :)

It's probably a worn Dual mass flywheel failure.

Mine started making a noise in N and P which got worse over time (eventually becoming more of a rattling sound), until eventually it started violently juddering under acceleration at which point I replaced the flywheel.

If you try blipping the throttle in P or N you might be able to hear a slight rattle which is the early sign of DMF failure.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I am afraid it is that to. But luckily I changed it for under a year ago, so it is still under warranty.

I have also noticed that this noise only occur when the engine is cold. After some driving it is not noticeable.

I've had a chance to listen carefully to my DSG at idle, and I would say there is a slight noise in N and P.

My flywheel was replaced just over a year ago and has done around 10,000 miles.
