Tyre fitters advice

Featured Replies

I maybe underestimated the strength of the tyre sealant when I planned on removing my tyre to clean up the valve seat before getting new tyres. It had a slow leak at the valve.

I cut the tread off of the tyre to clean the valve seat and intended removing the sidewalls too, to clean the wheel in preparation for the tyres to be fitted. These are very well stuck.

Is this going to be a problem for the fitter when I take them in??? or will the machine still remove the remaining sidewalls easily enough?

Cheers.

The hydraulics should power through it, depends what your fitters like.

He could try charging you more but I'm doubtful.

The machine they use relies on the sidewall being present as it uses this to lever the tyre off the rim.

How much of it have you already cut off?

No doubt he'll be able to use good old tyre levers but if it takes longer than normal then he may well be entitled to charge more?

it will be a pain but it's not the worst thing he's ever had to do.  He should just suck it up.

It more relies on the bead (The lip that's under the alloy) if there's tyre showing around the rim it's simple.

You take that silver spoon on the side and just get as close to the rim as possible the it pushes the rim against the pad and the spoon moves in reseating the bead.

All I have removed is the tread, the whole tread and nothing but the tread, Lol. (used a knife to cut around top of sidewall on both sides).

The tread is like you may see resting on the motorway central reservation.

The whole (both) sidewalls are still on the wheel, awaiting removal.

Cheers.

Sounds like not a real problem then?
