Hello From Strathspey

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Well - I've taken the plunge - and ordered a Yeti 1.4 TSi 4x4 L&K in "Jungly Green"! First time with a petrol for 2+ decades - I've come from the "dark side" of oil burners.

Also - for the first time in my driving career (35 years), I've gone for the leasing option - Gulp!

I've done the "Buying Old", "Company Car", "Buying New", "Buying Nearly New" & all have their problems. So we'll see what "new hell" a 24 month lease brings!

Whilst, I'm saying "hello", I thought I must also pose my first of what may be a long line of queries :)

Anyway - its on its way from Germany (apparently!) and will be 4-5weeks. (Was 3-4 weeks before I paid the deposit!) Should I expect a definite pick-up date a good period in advance? (I need to "go-get" from deepest, darkest England-shire!) The dealer is reluctant to give me an exact date, or even a date when I can get an "exact date".

What else do I need to keep aware of when leasing? And picking up a new car? Is there anything I should look out for or check with the dealer? The first gotcha I've encountered is GAP insurance. I kind of understand its need, but my planned insurer (Aviva) have committed to re-pay full retail price of the car, if its written off in the first 12 months. Therefore, (I think), I only need to find GAP insurance for the last 12 months.

What does everyone reckon to getting some kind of coating to protect the paint from scratches & leather from stains. I've read that Skoda's "Lifeshine" is a bit over-hyped, over-priced and usually not very well applied? Are there some good alternatives. How quickly do I need to apply it. (For example, I am planning to drive down from NW England (where I am picking it up) on down to Devon for my hols. If I do the drive first, then wash it off and apply the treatment, or get the Detailers down there to it, will this be "too late"?

Thanks for any help or advice proferred.

Regards,

Harry.

Hello Harry  :hi:

I've been driving 35 years too.

Be patient.  If they get disinterested as time goes on, indicate you'll pull out and go elsewhere, see if that galvanises them with dates.

I have GAP insurance and I'm pretty sure mine covers the first three years.  For the money it seemed daft not to.

Don't let the dealers do Lifeshine or any other preparation.  Get a local Detailer to do a New Car Protection detail on it.  It'll pay dividends in the long run.  I had mine done within a few days of purchase and I was surprised how contaminated mine was.  Mine was completed with Gtechniq products and is lasting well.  Having said that, you're leasing it, so might just want to wash it properly, seal and polish, rather than fork out for a detail.

Hi and welcome.

Just to let you know that we offer a product called Total Loss Protection. Whilst it's not exactly the same as your Traditional GAP product we feel for some customers it can make a cost effect alternative.
