Replacing door speakers

Featured Replies

Has anyone had the chance to replace their door speakers?

Having just purchased a 2.5 year old VRS I was disappointed to find the sound is absolutely terrible. It's fine if you just like your music to be background noise, but once you turn it up it's almost ear splitting.

I've read about changing the capacitor on the door tweeters which is something I'm definitely going to be doing, but wondered if while the door cards were off it would be a good idea to replace the door speakers themselves to improve things a little more?

So a couple of questions...

1) Would replacing door speakers (not tweeters) improve the sound/bass, or is the system itself a restriction?

2) What size door speakers fit the octavia? i.e. what speakers are an almost straight fit? (screw holes etc)

I dont think that the speakers are the main problem.

I remember a similar situation with Golf MK5. Those who were equipped with RCD300/RCD500 had the same poor sound. If and when they replaced the headunits with RDC310/RCD510/ RNS... the soun improved alot.

Maybe it is the same situation here. Bad enough that I understand is quite hard to change the headunit.

I wouldn't bother replacing just the speakers, it wouldn't be worth the time or the money. Spend it in sound deadening. Or a small amp for the existing speakers.
