Hi all I have a Vrs with 125,000 on the clock and it has developed a rattle in neutral that sounds just like an air hockey puck being hit.My trusty mech has ruled out Dual mass flywheel and engine problems. If I rev the car lightly it is worst as the revs fall, any ideas?

What makes your tech so sure it's not the DMF? It sounds a lot like a failed Dual mass flywheel. Is it a diesel or petrol? 

 

Next time you drive it, put it in manual mode and select 3rd gear at about 25 mph and slow down until the rpm is about 1200.......floor the throttle and see if you get vibrations from the flywheel.....it's pretty violent and noticeable. That's another sign that it's the DMF.

Thanks booke I have had it into an auto box specialist and they are certain it's the DMF,but I will try your test to see how severe it is cheers
