Changing fuel filter

Featured Replies

I have a 2012 2.0 cr vrs diesel. I am planning on doing my next service myself oil n filters, can I just remove my fuel filter as normal or do I need to use sofyware as I have been told by my local skoda dealer. Thanks

It is best practice to prime the lift pump and aux. pump with VCDS to prevent any chance of air getting to the HPFP, however there are plenty of people that have made sure the filter bowl is full of diesel before boxing it up and have had no problems.

Its up to you if you want to risk it or not. If you have VCDS or access to it its a no brainer to do it by the book.

Cheers guys, I don't have it may look into it.

I was looking into this for the future and found this video which helped me understand it a bit better.

Fuelfilter replacement for Skoda Yeti 2.0CR

Nice and clear pictures, but text in Norwegian only.
I did the filter according to this video, topped with diesel before reinstalling the lid.
Had no problems with starting and no warning lights.

Tech at local garage told me VW CR engines will fill up the filter housing , and will start eventually.

But Ford CR engines will need the filter housings topped up or will never start.

I guess the procedure including a computer is slightly cleaner, no mess with adding diesel to the filter.  And by adding computers workshops may claim a lot more for a simple filterjob.

Thanks again, my local skoda dealer is looking £199 for oil and filter and fuel filter change. I've serviced all my previous cars, Iam in 2 minds here service my self as I have done to all my previous cars (they were less valuable) or skoda dealer to keep up with the stamps in the service book. Any opinions?

Do it yourself see the link I posted in #2, lots of pictures.

The CR140 in my Superb is all but identical to the CR170 in your vRS.

I'm no mechanic but it is dead easy to do the oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter and fuel filter.

im no mechanic and i did it myself in about an hour, most of the hour was removing the engine cover and draining the oil.

it really is very simple.

i have vcds so primed the pump as told in various videos and all is well.

i bought decent oil and bosch filters and it cost me around £60

Self service it is then. I'll be keeping the car for quite a few years anyway, so stamps in the book don't matter lol. Thanks guys

Get your oil here, £20 delivered, you can't go wrong.

This is a trusted seller (they run a Skoda garage), several of us have bought from here.

Quantum Long Life is VW507.00 spec (for your DPF equipped vRS) and is the same oil used by the franchised Skoda main dealers (rebranded Castrol)...
