Brake / load bias thingy.

Featured Replies

Can't think of the correct name for it, but I'm sure you will get the gist of it.

When I brought my car (08 vrs) it was already lowered. However I have a suspicion that the car thinks it's loaded up and gives more braking to the rear than it should.

I've seen people on here mention that you need to adjust the load sensor (names just come back to me).

Can anyone tell me how to set it correctly please or to all east check it's set correctly.

Thanks

The only cars which have level sensors are those with factory xenon lights. Even then, the brakes don't adjust based load/suspension height, it's only used to adjust the headlight height.

Older cars would have a brake bias valve somewhere which reduces the force transmitted to the rear brakes. Not sure if it applies to a MK2, where you'd find it or if it's adjustable :)

What makes you think it's giving too much pressure to the rear calipers? Is it running the original sized calipers and discs?

Cars all original apart from the springs.

Was testing for something knocking a few weeks back and someone who was watching suggested that the rear locked up before the front.

Also I'm creating more brake dust on the rear as opposed to the front.

Plus car has never felt brilliant under high speed braking.

Pads are from the Brembo range from euro car parts on both the front and rear. Don't know which versions as I've not got the box's anymore.

Has your car got abs ? If so there will be no load valve

All MK2 Octavias have ABS.

I thought so. So in theory wheels shouldnt be locking.

I thought the only cars that had automatic brake bias adjustment were cars with drum brakes

This is normal on the Octavia as mine is the same and you will find the rear pads wear out faster than the front ones, I think its set up to help prevent the nose diving during braking.

or so called sticky pads, improperly installed hand-brake cable and brake pads

my car used to brake all the time. after I replaced half of car...we found out hand-brake cable was stuck :-D

I break very hard, race-style as I was taught...and any rear brake preload doesn't help nose dive...it is comfort spring rates and rubbish dampers (most idiots drive with damaged dampers because they think it last forever ;-) of family cars ;-)

I've never seen any Octavia with worn rear pads before front ones. Most people don't brake hard enough and their rear brakes are rusted and usually doesn't work

it is more matter of false installation of pads, hand-brake and so on.

check out hand-brake lever on rear callipers...there should be gap between end-stop and lever max 3mm on both callipers together...I have one side at end-stop and another side has got 1.5mm gap

brake bias is set for safety...heavy understeer for common drivers combined with ABS/ESP

an other issue is damaged sealing on rear callipers, rusted pistons, air in brake lines and stuck pistons
