Airbag warning light on, advice please.

Featured Replies

It's a 2007 Roomster in "2" trim, 1.9PD Tdi engine, done just under 79,000miles.

Inspection service was done 22nd April, Airbag warning light was on then, my local garageman scanned and reported PO24C Faultcode 00588N95 "Airbag igniter drive".

He re-set things, the light stayed off for a while.

It is now showing again, a continual yellow light.

Any thoughts?

I use a lumbar-support device, its steel frame is now attached to the seatback by a string of cable ties looped around behind the seat.  I believe there are some sort of side airbags, are these in the side of the seat-back, would my lumbar device's attachments be causing this fault warning?

The device was originally attached by an elastic strap, this eventually failed, the cable ties were a solution that better holds the device in position.

Thanks for any advice/ assistance, MOT due mid-August, want to get this sorted before then as presume will be a "FAIL".

Some quick Googling code suggests that the issue is with the drives side (wheel) airbag that is at fault, perhaps the connection to airbag.

The fault is with the drivers airbag unit on the steering wheel. I'd look at the contact ring behind the wheel first.

Had this on a previous car, A little WD40 and a lot of turning the wheel cured it permanently. Not sure if you can get the Wd in on a Roomster though.

Ok many thanks, Tech1e, I'm taking it round to a local independent VW/Audi specialist this afternoon for further diagnosis.

Took it to Peter Allanson in Waky, did VCDS, code as above, "resistance too low". Tried re-setting it with ignition off, then with it on. For the time being the light is off!

Free diagnosis; watch this space....

I did notice car tending to wander towards nearside kerb lately, OSF tyre has a VERY slow puncture, reset all 4 to 2.2bar, setting off now to Derbyshire then Cheshire tomorrow, back tomorrow evening, c170 miles, will see if the airbag light and/or the wander show themselves.

BTW, Mr Allanson (30yrs VW experience) advised DO NOT squirt WD40 or silicone spray into the steering wheel hub/airbag area, but thanks BryanB for the suggestion.

The airbag yellow warning light came back on the next day, after c 70 miles. Contacting the specialist again soon to arrange for him to investigate further....

Correct tyre pressures in both fronts stopped the wander, must check them more often!

Good news, after further diagnostic work (including checking a connector under the driver's seat), a faulty connector ring-device within steering wheel boss was isolated;

New part fitted today, a black plastic bagel-like device that contains a long braided cable wound like a clock spring, airbag light off, part and all labour £90.75.

Sorted!

Thanks to all for assistance/advice.
