Hazard relay replacement allows fan to run with keys out!

Featured Replies

I picked up a hazard replacement from ebay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221980833634) and found that on fitting it seems to allow the fans to run without the ignition key in.

The original seems to exhibit the correct behaviour still.

Anyone know why this is? Surely it shouldn't do that?

I've got a 54 plate octy which is using canbus if that makes a difference.

the part number original is:

WBS + DI + OMR

I'm guessing it's not a genuine hazard switch which is probably causing the issue.

I bought a non-genuine replacement unit from Ebay last year for mine, it's been fine.

Weird one.

Reminds me of many years ago, Vauxhall Nova's had a wiring anomaly where if you removed the Hazard switch, turned it upside down and plugged it back in then the car would continue running if you switched the ignition off!

Yes, as demonstrated once in top gear :D OP why not pop into a scrappies and get one?

Why are you replacing the original switch?

Why are you replacing the original switch?

It's a known fault on these cars that the units fail. You may not know this but the whole unit controls all the indicators, not just the hazards - so when it fails you lose your indicators too.

Buy genuine, buy once.

Replaced mine from dealer and had no issues.
