TDI doing over 6000rpm

Featured Replies

That looks like just under 6000 to me ;)

Its probably really a Golf GTI with diesel clocks :D

my 1.5TD nova would rev to 6k happily :)

till it blew up :D

I reckon that dash panel is from a Mk2 Golf/Jetta - it looks damn near identical to the one on my Mk2 Jetta, if not it's another mid 80's VW. The TDI didn't appear until the mid 90's in the Mk3 Golf IIRC so it doesn't seem right.

Probly a GTi with the wrong clocks as pbirkett suggests.

there was a mk2 GTD that came out in 1990 :)

there was a Mk1 GTD too, same clocks again

A friend has one of the new Mazda 6 common rail diesels, he reckons his will rev to 6.5k!! I, for one, always understood that the reason why diesels don't rev very high is becuse the slower burning rate of diesel means the physical limit of the speed of combustion is reached sooner, i.e., at lower revs. Evidently not?

It will have long since past its best. Its peak power will likely still be 4500 rpm max! All he is doing is buggering up his engine if he's doing that. Either that, or he is lying.
