1.2TSi 105 vs 110 Opinion.

Featured Replies

Well owned two 105's, had the first 5 years ago and still have one. (Octavia) I now also have two 110's and have covered a few hundred mile in them now. This week I've been pretty much alternating between the two engines.

Most will know they are a completely different engines.

So my thoughts.

The 105 is a very refined and smooth engine but does sound a little course if pushed. The 110 is smoother and sounds a little sweeter if pushing on but not much in it.

The 110 is quicker to get up to temperature, this is one of the upgrades on the 110 and it certainly does the job. It will be interesting to see what difference this makes when the ambient temperatures drops.

The biggest difference is the low rpm response, both engines have 175nm, the 105 from 1550rpm and the 110 from 1400rpm. But the differences are more noticeable than that at low revs in my opinion.

Drop below 1400rpm in the 105 and it really is like driving a normally aspirated 1.2. It's certainly not undriveable but you know there's no boost.

In comparison the 110 just seems to build boost from tickover, there's more pull from low rpm. The turbo installation is obviously improved on the 110

So quite happy with the 110 and it seems a bit more of an upgrade than just 5PS.

Not fair to really compare the economy as the 110's are in a vehicle 100kg heavier, less aerodynamic and they are still pretty tight.

Morning Lee :-)

Great write up of the comparison between the engines! A bit early yet but have you noticed anything regarding the MPG? Any other differences on the model from your previous model?

Still awaiting a build & projected (updated) delivery date for our new 1.2 DSG - still hoping for Sept 1st...................Regards, Tony

My previous 2012 1.2 DSG (s/h, bought with 15000 already showing) averaged 35.5 mpg over my 11,000 miles.

It's replacement 2015 1.2 (110) DSG is averaging 37.5 mpg over first 5,500 miles. Mostly short journeys, occasional half to one hour mway 'blast' and two long distant trips (42 mpg).

I was get abut 34/35 with my 105, still early days with the 110, but definatly better, been getting low 40's on the longer runs. Current average is in the footer via Fuelly.

That's interesting to know. I have the new 1.0 TSI DSG in the Ibiza. Currently averaging 38.7MPG over 1,600 miles (Fuelly). Same as you, rush hour start/stop traffic two times a day for my commute.

I've done one 200 mile round trip on the motorway which got 51.4MPG (brim to brim). Quite impressive.

I can, however get it down to about 22MPG If I 'enjoy' the drive ;)
