Xenon bulb change Fabia 1

Featured Replies

Hi all, have a fabia vrs 05 with factory xenons and need to change them as one has gone pink. Have seen lots of guides on here about changing out the sidelights with xenon equipped fabia but not the actual xenon itself. If there is a guide could someone point me in the right direction please? Seems simple enough after reading the other side light guides and taking a look, just a bit cautious about getting a shock. Can I just disconnect the cable from the ballast to be safe? Thanks

Just take the back of the head light off the twist the black plastic collar. It's a bit fiddly

Thanks for the reply, no need to disconnect at the ballast end?

Changed the bulb but really quite a yellow colour, it's a 4300k osram xenarc, does it need time to break in or do I have problems? Any help appreciated.

Should replace in pairs.... As they age they go whiter (essentially the colour temperature rises) and light output drops off.

Ideal thanks.

4300k is a bit yellow, but it does provide maximum light output. A nice compromise is 5000k, it's mostly white with a blue tinge and still provides good light output.

5000k here in genuine xenons.

I've read on here that the xenons can be manually adjusted to a point, would that be the 2 white screws on the top of the light unit? If so any ideas which one adjusts the height? I understand to be set properly they need to be changed on vagcom anyone know any places in cornwall? cheers

Yes they can be adjusted manually, but must be put into learn mode with VCDS before making any adjustments with the screws.

OK thank you for your help. Just to find a garage or someone with the kit now.

Exactly this, the xenons need to be centralised on their motors in the Learn mode on vcds otherwise you can screw the auto adjusters up. Worth making sure the self levelling sensor over the rear beam is free and working as well

So managed to get a chap with snap on gear to have a look at setting the xenons but it wouldnt connect, so gonna try another chap. However We noticed that when turning the xenons on I can hear the adjustment motor moving in one of the headlights but the headlight is not!? Could it be the adjustment motor is ruined or that possibly the light itself (the internal part that moves) is caught on itself therfore the motor can't move it? Also are theset motors replaceable ?

The inside of the light floats, so cant get caught on anything.

They are held in by two rubber bungs at the top of the light that can somtimes come loose and the bracket for the motor holds the bottom and allows it to move up and down.

They are easily changed and tested though.
