Rear brake gets warm - TRW brake caliper - checked a lot

Featured Replies

Hi guys, please, could you help me

I have a Skoda with a crazy TRW rear left brake caliper, brake getting hot (warm).. Had this problem for almost a year..

As long as I drive slower than 110km/h it doesnt make a too big difference on the consumption..

I rebuild the caliper with new seals (doublechecked everything)

a new brake hose mounted... Brake disk is straight..

all parts lubed and everything moves nice, brakepads loose and lubed..

handbrake wire detached and the axle inside the caliper that goes out to the handbrake arm is checked and lubed.

still the brakes gets warm.. :@   :wall:

do you know whats wrong inside the caliper?

maybe that spring in the middle behind the cylinder?

or is it something wrong with the selfadjusting mecanism?

or is it something wrong with some valve inside the ABS valve block ?

what is responsible to push the brake caliper cylinder backwards?..

my cylinder moves back just a half mm. or less. the brakedisk moves almost as free as the right one..

I hate to change stuff before I know what really is wrong with it..

Sounds like my car except it's the Front Off Side that gets warm. Much warmer than the nearside. Calipers new a couple of years ago (due to binding) cleaned and lubed sliders etc.  New disks and pads. Still gets warm. Much more dust on alloys than near side. Near Side Rear is a fraction warmer then OSR. I figure they are linked diagonally. Check your front off side for warmth too. I'm convinced there is something up in the ABS block to cause this.

Have you cleaned the carrier and filed off the corrosion on the sliding part that the pad tabs sit/slide on. The tabs on the pad backing plate can be filed off a touch to ensure a clearance fit on the carrier.

Also some penetrating oil squited into the caliper slide bolts under the rubber boots and worked in will help.

Finally check the handbrake lever on the caliper always returns to the stop. If necessary again some penetrating oil and working it off.

If the handbrake cable is too tight, check the cables are not seized, slacken the handbrake at the drivers end and check the slack works through to calipers, if not then strip the cables off, inspect and lubricate or change if they don't work smoothly.
