Cheers for the offer, really appreciated but thankfully not needed now.

Still being sceptical, I asked the by now  reluctant and very, very busy garage politely to check for fault codes, as alberg suggested above, before we started down the road of new headlamps or motors etc.

I dropped the car too them very last thing on Friday afternoon....and low and behold after clearing some fault codes, manually adjusting the lamp, clearing the codes again and setting the levels through the computer all is now working correctly....not sure how much they will charge me just yet as they will put a bill through once the CV boots are done this week, but I'm assured it will be less than the £80 I was going to pay for a second hand headlamp.

Result...and they were also quite contrite afterwards as they had not seen it before so fair play too them.

that will happen if you have the suspension off and use the car/lights. As the lights use a small linkage on the suspension which will have moved. I replaced my springs and had to have exactly the same thing done

Every time my old car went to the dealers it happened.

The lifts they use in the workshop allow the suspension to drop to it's lowest setting as the car is lifted from underneath rather than on it's wheels.

The xenon level sensors on the suspension popped off their ball joints. Most times the dealer remembered to pop them back on, once or twice they didn't.
