Will these wheels fit a Mk1 estate?

Featured Replies

Yep just fine. Had a set myself a fair while back.

Wow, that looks nice, Tech1e. What tyres did you use with them? And is the offset a problem? Thanks :)

EDIT: Would they suit the estate? And gloss black, or silver *Wink*

205/45 16 (vRS spec) work fine, as do 195s.

Offset is fine, on the above I was running 10mm spacers up front, 20mm at the back.

I think they would suit the estate, went for black S3 wheels myself.

Thanks again. That estate of yours looks really mean - what size were the S3 wheels? 17s? I'm trying to figure out a 'OEM-ish' looks upgrade that won't impact on daily use, whilst making the car look a little bit more interesting, but not outlandish..........

EDIT: With the spacers, do need different wheel nuts? And do they alter a lot of things, suspension-wise?

Your car will be fine without spacers, don't need them as such.

The 16s are good as they are a lot lighter.

Cheers for the quick reply, Tech1e. You say the 16s are lighter - lighter than 17s, or the standard alloys? I did read somewhere on here that you thought the Mk1 Fabia was better on 17s - If you were going for an 'everyday-lukewarm' version of the Fabby estate, what size would you go for? (And what mods?)

EDIT: One unrelated question, how do you remove the black strips on the front and rear bumper? (And the rubbing strips, as well) I fancy colour coding mine :)

Lighter than the 17s yeah. 17s look better, but it will drive better on the 16s in my view.

Go for the 16s in my opinion. It's why I've stuck with them on my sedan, still go over 312mm (f) and 256mm ® brakes.

The bumper mouldings just pull off, start at one end with a plastic trim tool. Personally if you are going to paint them I'd buy new ones, they don't tend to fit back on that well once removed.

Well, I'll go for 16s, as I value your opinion, as you've managed to make the sedan Fabby look awesome! (Shame they didn't do one in TDI flavour!) What other 16 inch wheels that are VAG and readily (and cheap) would you suggest suit the Mk1 estate?

Plastic trim tool? And would I have to go to a dealer to get the mouldings? And even the front one is 'pop off'? Cheers :)

EDIT: Does the 1.4 TDi lump respond well to a remap? I fancy a Bohemia, as they have tinted rear windows (Is the privacy glass sufficient to keep the sun off my little'un?) And do any of the Bohemia models have parking sensors? Cheers :)

I've never seen a set on the estate but I think they would look good. Pastyboy can sort some Skoda centres for them.

The 1.4 engine ain't bad, goes well for what it is.

Pastyboy? Is he from these parts? Would you say that the 1.4 is noisier than 1.9, as it's a 'three-pot'? Would it be possible to up the BHP, without stressing it too much? I'll see if I can mock up an estate with those wheels of yours on - might be interesting

Yes he's a member on here.

1.4 is noisier, kinda got a growl to it. They can be mapped up, probably rather got for a PD100 though.

Thanks. Just had a rather crude go at 'shopping' your wheels onto a Fabby estate:

Not bad.

I think the Combi and the Sedan benefit more than the hatch as they don't normally come with nice alloys etc.

TBF, your sedan on wheel trims looks awesome - they really suit it.

Bored again -

EDIT: Just looking at your estate, Tech1e - how did you paint your B and C pillars and your roof gloss black? (Body shop, or at home?)

The unit just behind my car in the pics was my friends body shop. He did them for me.

I'm running a remapped 1.4TDI, it goes quite well  As for noise, it's quite a characterful burble, difficult to explain - have a look on Youtube. It's pretty quiet up to around 70-75mph.

I'm guessing 1.9 would probably be similar a remapped 1.4TDI as standard.

It was cheaper for me to insure a remapped 1.4 than a standard 1.9.
