Microsoft . . . . Any body know which MS mail/calendar/contacts/server package can be relied on to sync both ways between mobile devices (Including tablets) and Desktops running outlook.

At the moment, I'm in the process of migrating from my elderly Blackberry Playbook to a Windows-based tablet and whilst the new windows tablet, which runs MS Mail in Windows 10 Home, overcomes the deficiencies of the Playbook which would only sync everything one way, from the Playbook to Outlook on the desktop (It would not do the reverse direction) the update instructionfor E-mails deleted from desktop has a delay of three hours before its implemented on the new tablet - there's no problem with incoming E-mails to the Desktop and new tablet, both update at the same time.

Is this delay to be expected ?

The server used by outlook is a Hotmail address, whilst MS Mail in W10 on the tablet uses a Hotmail mobile server.

Clearly it works duplex, where the Playbook didn't, but I'm of the view that the delay shouldn't be occurring. Any opinions ?

Also, I understood that the outlook.com mail/calendar/contacts solution was due to be integrated with Office 365 by mid 2016 and that full syncing of mail/calendar/contacts would be available to all - this might be useful to me as it seems I can still get FOC access to Outlook.com through its web site sign-on. Anybody know what the state of play is ?

Do you mean like Outlook.com?

Yeah, but its not one click  to access, whereas the on-board packages, once set-up, are.

When ever I've accessed Outlook.com its always been a web  page interface which requires more than a single click to get into - I've found that desoite being logged into my MS account, entry to Outlook.Com still requires entry of identity and password. Hence, not my favourite.

Ideally what I would be looking for is a  "Back door"  to "Outlook.com" with a server address that can be inserted in the set-up page of the existing packages that I already have set-up on the desktop and windows tablet. This would enable "One-click" access.

The other thing is that if outlook.com is to be integrated with Office 365, then I would expect it to become a chargeable service, whereas Hotmail is FOC at the moment.

I have full outlook installed, and that syncs my "live.com" calendar using Exchange ActiveSync, the server m.hotmail.com

I get my mail, calendar, contacts all synced between my desktop, surface, couple of laptops and my phone.

This guide should help you:

Cheers, I think I've got it now.

After re-setting-up the e-mail account on all three machines, all three devices are now actively syncing E-mail, Calendars etc, and whilst the mobile devices, which have now been set up on Exchange Active Sync, do it more or less instantaneously, any change initiated at the Desktop takes a couple of minutes to get through to the other devices.

I suspect that the delay on the Desktop is due to the fact that it has Office 2010 installed and that Office 2010 doesn't support Exchange Active sync (I tried but couldn't set it up on the desktop, the software kept on substituting a password other than my mail account p/w (Hotmail Connector's) and has had to be set-up using Hotmail connector - as before.

The other strange thing was that before re-setup, I believe the Playbook was running a Hotmail only account, yet it was still possible to update the Outlook calendar on the Desktop. Euh ? - presumably RIM's servers must have stepped-in and filled the gap. That might explain why the calendar update only ran in the Playbook to Desktop direction.

I used to have Office 2013 installed on the Desktop when it was available as a free download (Trial copy ?), but lost it after a sap from HDD to SSD - I hadn't realised at that time that the use of Exchange Active Sync would have solved the calendar com problem. Clearly the download is not free now.

Now that's done I can go ahead and re-purpose the Blackberry for car use, but that's not before I've taken the back-off and replaced the micro USB connector, battery and popped the leads of the cameras back on their connectors.

Postscript.

Even after doing all that, I later found that the copy of  on OneNote on the Windows tablet wasn't syncing properly with the Microsoft cloud - existing folders were downloaded, but the folders were empty and wouldn't populate.

Oddly, just calling-up the live.com website and accessing existing OneNote files on a webpage was sufficient to resolve the local problem on the tablet - and the solution persisted after a system re-boot.

The live mail server address was dub121.mail.live.com, but my Windows tab and Playbook have had their Exchange Active sync accounts set-up on dub404-m.hotmail.com - amazing !
