Random No Voice from Canton system

Featured Replies

Just yesterday i start my car and realize no sound from media (i use the SD card playing MP3s) on Bolero with Canton speakers.

I select radio, voice  even touching the screen, the touch sound was not coming. I checked if i mute but nope. turn up volume, turn off and on the system,  nothing helped. I drove about 30 min. with out any music :(

when i arrive home i just turn off, open my door so everything shut off then start engine again and sound was back.

Go to my garage (its underground parking in apartment) get the kids out and start engine again and sound is gone again.

I go up to my home search online but i couldnt find anything, called my sales and he also have no clue. Just asked me to bring in the car to check.

I just saw someone mentioned on another forum with Octavia and Canton sound system had the issue and the radio control unit is changed by his dealer.

I was just wondering if putting in the reverse gear have any effect on it as it does lower the music sound so i went back to my car and tried (the sound was back again) but it didnt cause any issue.

Anyone have any clue what it might be?

The car is 2 weeks old, everything working now but not sure what it might happen later on.

Also i realize the automatic headlights are coming on delayed now compared to before, my setting is early turn on and until 2 days ago it was like immidiate when i go to a tunnel or car park but now takes over 5 seconds. is it normal?  A friend of mine mentioned they might reset the computer at the service but this shouldnt be necessary from time to time to have everthing working as it should be (2 weeks?? ahhh)

I have had strange issues with mine, but not this particular one. The car electronics go to 'sleep' a short while after switch off and this should reset minor issues. Many makes if car do this and it is often caused by no more than a timing issue between computer modules when the car starts - in the same way that a PC occasionally fails to start properly - and once restarted after a 'sleep' cycle works fine.

If it keeps doing it then there really is a problem and it needs fixing.

The joys of owning cars full of so much technology..:-(

Make sure you take a video on your phone of the car behaving this way as no doubt it will work faultlessly for the technician when you bring it by for a check.

In your video make sure you try each and every option you can for getting the volume back up. Try going back into reverse, move some, then back into first and drive off making sure you go fast enough for the parking program to dissappear from your screen.

Also have a look at your volume settings under car setup as your default max vol might be too low.

I don't mean this post to sound like sucking eggs either, but if you record this multiple times on your phone and show you trying to get the volume back and failing, the dealer will have no option but to accept there is a fault.

As a final fix, there is a hard reset to the head unit. I am not 100% sure as to how this is done but believe it's hold the on button in for over 10 seconds when the unit is powered on. Try that as last resort, note that most likely all your settings including radio stations will be wiped in this instance.

I have the Canton and the car is about 5 months old. I've had a similar problem once in that for me I lost the volume control and media switching functions, everything went dead although the display was fine. I thought at first I had maybe messed up the settings, but after switching the engine off and back on again the problem was resolved. It hasn't happened since so I haven't planned to get it looked at unless it happens again. Good advice about taking a video with a phone for evidence, there is nothing worse than trying to get a dealer to understand what the problem is if it's working fine when you take it in.

Since the problem happened few days back, it didnt showed up again but if it does i will take video.

I went to the dealer yesterday for the first 1000km check. I didnt mentioned the issue as it is not present i am sure they cant do anything about it.

I just asked them if they can unlock the refuelling quantity display on but they said their computer can not do it. Still waiting VCDS cable to arrive and maybe i can look into things more deeper myself.

Just an update, the issue never happened again but from time to time if i start the engine and put in reverse the backup camera display is all black, turn off and on again parking assist brings display back.

@Nazmi: the problem with the camera is a software problem that is very common with VWs (new Tiguan and Golf). It's an easy fix at the dealer with an up-dated software.

Simply hold in the Power/Volume "knob" untill the unit resets. Might cure your problem.

Thanks for this but i dont think the dealer here have a clue about software update. My car is May 2016 manufacture, still have a newer software ?  is there any way i can download the file and update?  like SD card to infotainment system?
