Noisy Second Gear and Problems opening hatch

Featured Replies

I have a new Yeti 1.2 TSI SE Manual and have just covered the first 500 miles. I have been aware since new of a noisy whine

in second gear at low revs accompanied by a metallic sound in the background. This does not occur with any other gear.

Should I be worried ????  Also I have been unable to open the tailgate on a few occasions it appears to unlock with the

remote but will not disengage from the lock - the only cure appears to be to lock and unlock a number of times.

Any thoughts folks ????

back to dealer would be my first thought

hatch could be a sticky lock, bit of lube required? but I would get the dealer to do it, or they may try and claim you used the wrong stuff and caused the issue

2nd gear if it is noticeable get a passenger to use a phone to record the noise, as frequently the noise fails to show up on test driver with mechanic

It's under warranty, so take it back and get them to look at it.

Mine's a 2.0 diesel but I get a whine at a certain speed, can't remember which gear though.

It's not that bad though and usually just drive through it. No metallic sound.

As per the others get it back to the dealers. The hatch should have been checked/adjusted when the PDI was done.

As others have said take it back to the dealer. Have you got someone else who could sit in the car and confirm you observations? Maybe best to not tell then exactly what your concerned about and allow an objective calibration. One of the problems I know from my own experience is once you ear is 'turned' into the sound it tends to get selectively amplified, the brain working as a good audio graphic equaliser.

My problems with the hatch door are opposite, I have trouble closing it. Too little pressure and it won't click in, too much and it bounces back failing to click in again. Today I went 3 times around the car: close the door go to the driver window to check if it's closed, no it isn't. Try again, no, try again, finally.  I was starting to worry I will not be able to close the door. Fortunately the rain started 5 minutes after, either wise I would have been very upset going around the car all wet trying to close a door.
