MOT

Featured Replies

Hi guys and girls,

I recently had problems with my DPF light on the dash and with little hassle took it to a local garage who gave me options to replace or get rid (not noting anything about legalities) I opted for the cheaper to which I now deduce meant the removal and remap of the DPF and ECU.

My MOT is due in a couple of months and it has me a little worried as Ive researched now and it seems to be pot luck if it passes or not. I would like it to pass as Ill be selling it shortly after its a fairly clean car besides a few cosmetic issues.

Any advice?

Based in Nottingham.

and yes now maybe I should have done a little more research into the options presented to me but I didn't so..

Thanks in advance for your help, its much appreciated!

The vehicle will automatically fail the MOT test if the filter had been fitted as standard but is found to be no longer present.

Depends on how the DPF was removed, if it was simply cut out and a piece of pipe welded in its place then it's going to fail the MOT.

However if the DPF was cut open along the top, the guts bashed out of it and rewelded then it MAY pass. The DPF check is currently visual only, so if there is no obvious signs of tampering it should pass currently.

That is not to say that in future the MOT may change and the presence is checked using software, but it SHOULD be ok now.

Don't worry, as above, as long as the DPF has been removed properly (internals removed, outer case remains) then you'll be fine.
