Felicia gearbox noise? Whistling kettle in 5th gear!

Featured Replies

Hello everyone!

My car has started making a horrible noise in 5th gear that sounds like an old kettle that whistles when boiling.

From my extremely limited mechanical knowledge I have presumed its gearbox related. I've recently had the clutch done and the gear box oil changed so not sure what would cause it?

At the moment I'm driving it but not using 5th gear at all! Difficult on the dual carriageway....

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Thanks Ricardo..

Read through it and couldn't see much other than the paddle things welded to the gearbox or something.

I've read these gearboxes are strong. Mines on standard power and has only done 71k... So confused!

Getting my mechanic to drive it tomorrow, he'll hopefully diagnose it!

Any other suggestions?

Yep. Don't use 5th gear!

It's the 5th gear retaining nuts that are coming loose.

They are very easy to fix as you just have to remove the cover off the end of the box to get to them and can be done with the gearbox still in the car.

Buy some new nuts and get them fitted asap.

Thanks guys!!

Will get my mechanic to take a look tomorrow.

Where should I find these retaining nuts? Motor factors or skoda dealer?

Cheers!

Skoda dealer is probably the best bet. That's where I bought mine from. They were pretty cheap.

Legends! Seems pretty common.

Found the part number: N 90790601
