Boot Not Shutting Properly & Warranty Question

Featured Replies

Recently on my Rapid Sport I have had to slam the boot in order for it to close properly. Closing it with typical force causes it to close but there is a gap and MFD shows the boot is open.

I took it to my local dealers who said the catch was tight and needs adjusting; however even though the car is still in its 3yr warranty he said any adjustments like this are only covered within the first 6 months? They are going to charge £75 for 1hr labour to adjust it (and unblock my rear washer which also has stopped working, the motor sounds powerful though so I think it's blocked rather than anything more serious).

Anyone else had this issue and know how to adjust it? If it can be done by a dealer I can certainly have a go and save some cash. Also any comments about the warranty as that doesn't seem right, I haven't knowingly done anything to desegregate the lock mechanism so it's a fault of the part not the user?

Thanks in advance

It sounds like the rubber bump stops either side of the tailgate need to be adjusted.

If you can get a set of hex keys it's a fairly simple job to adjust them - too much and you'll get the famous Rapid rumbling so just lower bit at a time. Mine, like most, were too low causing a rumbling noise.

as for the washer, other than checking the washer fluid level I'm not sure about that one

Is the boot closing properly when a door or a window is open? When the cabin is airtight it's more difficult to close any door so a little more force is normally required.

noticed my boot has actually started rustinga t the corners due to the bottom of the boot lid corners are rubbing against the bumper and now scored the bumper paint right off and also damaged the boots edge, so gonna be warranty work or ill be parking it on there forecourt on its roof.

Also noticed fretting of the paint on the bumper and tailgate from contact on our Toledo; think though it may have been fixed during its time as the dealership service managers company car, as there's a decent gap between the two and I cannot get them to touch by pushing down on the tailgate.

TP

Being charged for the boot work seems a bit much when the car is still under warranty? When I had my Fabia estate, I had the boot lock mechanism completely replaced free of charge when the xar had done 20k and still under warranty.
