Singular clunk/thud noise

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have just recently acquired a 2003 Fabia 1.2L Petrol. When I turn the steering to the right, full lock, there's a singular clunk noise that can be heard when the steering wheel reaches full lock - like a clunk, or a thud. I only recently bought the car used from a garage and I've only done about 10 miles on it so far (has about 120,000km on the clock in total), I never encountered the issue whilst driving, it went along like a beaut - but heard it when parking, and if I turn the wheel while the car is stationary then I can hear the clunk - it's a much louder noise outside the car than it is inside the car. As it's just a singular clunk/thud, I figure that can rule out the CV joint. It was serviced before I bought it and came out to be fine, and it only just passed its yearly NCT test here in Ireland 2 weeks ago which essentially deems it to be roadworthy. It had 4 new tyres put on by the garage when it was serviced, so I'm wondering if a shoddy job there may have caused this issue, or it it runs deeper. Before I get it checked out by a different mechanic I wanted to ask here, since this was my go to place for advice when buying this Fabia as my first Skoda.

Any idea what this may be that's causing the noise?

Does it clunk when fully turning left or right, or both, and check for steering fluid leaks.

Inclined to think problem lies within the steering rack, and checking all joints etc attached/ linked to steering.

Does it when turning to both sides. I'll have a look for steering fluid leaks.

Sounds like two things are hitting each other at full lock. My concern was that it'd be steering related, could be a pricey fix.
