So finally signed the lease on a Fabia S 1.2 110 DSG. We were after cheap automatic family motor and couldn't justify the extra monthly costs of SE or adding A/C. The trim doesn't bother me I think the kids and I will abuse it anyway. But a bit worried about lack of A/C if in a years time I went to skoda and paid for it to be added does anyone know how much that would cost? Google has failed me.

I got free metallic paint so went Rallye Green I might upgrade to alloys at some point also. But for now £150 a month family automatic is brilliant.

Thanks but that's factory fitted options at time of manufacture, I am referring too a year down the line the dealer fitting it.

I would think quite a lot of money. Compressor, drive, ducting, controls, labour. I know a replacement Volvo A/C compressor was circa £750 + fitting about 4 years ago.

Think you'd need to speak to a specialist outfit rather than a Skoda dealer. Although what it would do to your warranty I have no idea.

Cheers Alltorque. As it's a lease it will have to be done by Skoda themselves. I'll look into it closer to the time and just hope we don't have any heat waves next year :-)

don't forget stripping all dash and console out the car

if you haven't got a build date you can still add it to the car so long as the payments stay within your budget

Add it as an option now if you can or seriously look into an SE instead.

It's practically impossible- you could do it, but the cost would be astronomical. Better off getting a different car. 

 

Also- the SE is one insurance group less than the S, due to it having a standard alarm and the Front Assist system. This is something to think about, especially as you mention that you've got kids. If they're of the age where they're starting to drive, that might help a fair bit with the insurance costs! The SmartLink system on the SE is also something worth having- it means free SatNav if you have a compatible phone (Android 4.0 and up, or iPhone 5 onwards)

It is a very good post. I did check the difference in insurance cost just now but there's only £3 a month in it.

The SE is very tempting but it's cheap motoring we require.

Thanks for setting me straight on A/C not being an option we'll just stick without it, thanks for all your input.

An alternative is to try and get one of the ex rental ones that appear in the Skoda used cars section. Click the a/c button and put a one year max restriction.

I did this 18 months ago, managed to pick up a 7 month old 13k miles old shape Fabia S tsi DSG with a/c, metallic and spare wheel for £7995. (I subsequently discovered this is standard rental fleet options)

I had the cash (was changing job from Central London and thus had been using train instead of having second car), to buy it outright, but all I have paid since is a service and a replacement tyre (picked up a screw causing puncture).

Now driving more, so selling it soon, but that wasn't the plan 18 months ago. If I was still keeping it the depreciation would have been about £100 per month as I intended to keep it few years.

By all means. Currently expected delivery date of early November.

I'd get a better spec, S is a bit poverty, you'll regret it after a few months.

 

You cant retrofit aircon these days, too many parts to change.

Thanks, but switch that to 36 months with 10k mileage allowance and it's 209 a month.

We need cheap monthly motoring for the next 3 years when hopefully we'll be in a better financial position. I'll regret this less than paying more each month than we can afford.

Also now I've signed a lease I don't look at New offers because i'd get stung with a cancellation fee of £500 ;-)

How much are you paying per month for the "S" on your pcp?

S DSG 1.2 110 £148 a month over 36 months 10k miles.

It's a lease not PCP no option to buy it at the end it has to go back.

Cheapest automatic small family car motoring I could find that actually existed. A lot of lease websites advertise amazing deals but then quote you way more when you enquire.

If you find something better don't tell me as I'm in the contract now ;-)

Enjoy it. There's a lot to be said for cheap, basic motoring. Some of my family had a Felicia when that first came out - that didn't have any creature comforts but they had it for about 10 years and never had to have any work done on it. It was their main family car for 7 of those 10 years.

It's still a lease, it just on PCH not PCP. My dad owns a leasing company and it makes his blood boil when companies advertise **VW Golf R only £150 a month** when you can only cover 5 miles a year and have to sell your testicles. 

Bugged me so much when looking for my Fabia. Loads of adverts saying '£150 a month £150 down' but then the moment you put in an annual mileage that isn't ridiculously tiny the price jumps massively. Ended up on PCP through the dealers.
