Position Sensor for Intake Air Regulating Flap

Hey guys....have a 2011 Fabia vRS....the other night while driving home, the car lost power and went into limp mode...it's idling very rough and is very down on power...I scanned the car and the below fault appeared.  Has anyone any idea what the problem is?  (There doesn't seem to be a lot of information on the net about it)

 

 

1 Fault Found:

2913 - Position Sensor for Intake Air Regulating Flap 

          P10A5 00 [039] - Signal too High

Have you cleared the fault to see if it returns?

 

I can only assume its some sort of throttle body fault.

Yeh I cleared the fault but it returned straight away. I've booked it in to be looked at tomorrow.

Isn't this for the swirl flaps? Probably needs a new inlet manifold, take some lubricant with you......

 

Unless you can just change part of the assembly.....i'm not very clued up on the petrols

Just off the phone to the mechanic there...said there was a broken wire to coil pack/plug #4....said petrol has washed the cylinder and there is no compression....most likely needing an engine rebuild.  32k miles on the clock...unreal. :(

The oil is used to seal the piston rings so if the cylinder is washed then its worth pouring a small amount of oil into the cylinder via the spark plug hole and turning it over a few times before putting the spark plug back in. You never know, you may get away with it depending on if its done much damage to the bore or not but don't let them rebuild your engine without at least trying it.

He did say he was trying to clear it so I presume that's what he was doing. He said he'll have another look on Monday.

Totally real.

But does the technician actually know these engines or much about them.

 

There is so many get the compression test wrong.

Then so many without a clue about them that talk sharn and give duff advice.

In Limp Mode the ECU can close down 2 cylinders and also disable the Turbo.

Limp mode can come from a failing spark plug and misfires still not logging misfires because not enough in the cycle.

Or a Coil failing, wire off etc.

 

Bore wash happens, but so do valves burn out,

only let fully Qualified and Trained VW Group Technicians diagnose and do any work, or Competent Mechanics with the knowledge.

So many miss diagnosis have caused lots of owners unnecessary expense.

I would say the technician has never worked on one of these before...I'm in the Republic of Ireland and there are probably 20 Fabia RS's in the country so chances are pretty slim he has.  I have taken the car back from the garage and will be sending it into a company that specialise in engine reconditioning/rebuilding
