thought the czech ones would look good on the skoda, there are plates form every european country there too

They are illegal as the font is wrong for the UK, you might get away with it though as they don't really stand out.....

i know that the black with pressed silver or white plates are illegal on a car built after 1973, but the pressed newer ones are legal, just wasnt sure about those czech ones, they would look tasty on the skoda tho.

The background surface should be reflex-reflecting but the characters must not.

THE BRITISH STANDARD

The British Standard sets out the physical characteristics on the number plate. This includes:

  • Visibility
  • Strength
  • Reflectivity

The British Standard also requires that a number plate must be marked with the following information: -

  • The British Standard Number (currently BS AU 145d)
  • The name' date=' trade mark, or other means of identification of the manufacturer or component supplier. (The company who actually make the number plate.)
[*']The name and postcode of the supplying outlet. (The 'supplying outlet' is taken to mean a company whose business consists wholly or partly of selling number plates.)
  • A non-reflective border and the Euro-symbol with the national identification letters are optional additions.
  • There shall be no other markings or material contained on the number plate.

och, damn shame

Yep and they are clamping down on them big time as speed cameras wont recognise them.

Sounds like a plan to get them then ;) No, Seriously, it aint the Gatso's etc, it's the ANPR Cameras that can't recognise them, apparantly big fines and even licence plate removal for repeat offenders!!!!!

Check this out (About German style plates but it's all revelavant:

This did come up last year, and was the subject of a Group Buy feeler

But I feel that the continuing DVLA crackdown for number-plate recognition systems, and London congestion charges will mean that purchasing them will be too risky.

Steve

they are illegal but in real life as they do not misrepresent your number you would in all honesty get away with it unless they were being really picky. As the worst that would happen is a VRN (Vehicle Rectification Notice) for a first offence there is little to lose in trying them.
